FAQ's

What does it mean that The Everyday Canine is home-based?

The Everyday Canine is a home-based dog training and boarding environment, which means your dog stays in a personal residence rather than a commercial kennel. This approach provides a safe, controlled, and realistic setting that mirrors the environment where your dog lives every day.

By staying in a home setting, we focus on building habits that translate directly to your family life. Dogs are integrated into our daily household routine, receiving full-time supervision, professional handling, and consistent boundary reinforcement in a calm, focused atmosphere.

We prioritize quality over quantity by keeping our guest numbers limited. This ensures that every dog receives the individualized attention and structure necessary to achieve meaningful results and maintain a balanced state of mind while in our care.

Why a home-based environment is beneficial:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety compared to traditional high-volume facilities.
  • Realistic training scenarios sessions in a setting that mimics your own home.
  • Individualized attention and direct, frequent interaction with the trainer.
  • Natural transition back to your household rules and routine.

Boarding Questions

Do you allow tours of your home-based facility?

While we understand the desire to see where your dog will be staying, we do not offer tours of our home-based facility. This policy is primarily for the safety and well-being of the dogs currently in our care. Maintaining a calm, structured, and predictable environment is our top priority, and frequent visitors can cause unnecessary stress or excitement for our guests.

To provide transparency and peace of mind, we provide regular photo and video updates so you can see exactly where your dog is spending their time and how they are progressing. Additionally, we discuss our setup, daily structure, and safety protocols in detail during the initial evaluation session.

How many dogs do you care for at one time?

We believe in quality over quantity, so we keep our numbers limited to ensure each dog receives the individual attention, structure, and supervision they deserve. Typically, we care for between 3 to 5 dogs at any given time, though this can vary depending on the specific needs and compatibility of the group.

Our priority is maintaining a balanced environment where every dog feels safe and comfortable. Capacity is strictly managed based on temperament, size, and the level of structure required for the current dogs in care. This limited approach allows us to uphold a high standard of personalized care that larger facilities simply cannot match.

Will my dog listen the same at home as they do with you?

Dogs are situational learners, meaning they often associate specific behaviors and rules with the environment and the person handling them. While your dog will learn and practice reliability while in our care, their response at home depends heavily on consistent handling, rules, and structure provided by you and your family.

Reliability is built through regular practice and clear expectations. To help bridge the gap, we provide the tools and support needed for effective owner follow-through. Success is a partnership—the more you stick to the routines and handling techniques we establish, the more your dog will mirror that reliability regardless of the setting.

What happens if my dog shows stress or isn’t thriving in your care?

Your dog’s well-being is our top priority. If we observe signs of significant stress or if your dog isn’t thriving, we immediately modify routines, physical activity, or social interactions to help them settle.

We communicate openly with you throughout the process. In rare cases where a dog continues to struggle, we may recommend discontinuing services for their own comfort and safety.

What if my dog needs medication?

We can administer owner-provided medications with a completed Medication Administration Authorization.

Training Questions

Do you guarantee training results?

Professional dog training results are not guaranteed, as success is deeply dependent on consistency and environment. Dogs are sentient beings, and their behavior is influenced by the rules, structure, and practice established by their owners.

We provide the building blocks for success, but achieving long-term reliability requires a collaborative effort to ensure training translates effectively to your life.

How long does training take to see results?

Timelines for improvement vary based on the individual dog and the behavior being addressed. While changes often appear quickly, progress is not always linear and involves natural plateaus as a dog processes new expectations.

Our focus is achieves long-term reliability over quick fixes, ensuring that your dog develops a solid foundation that stands up to the challenges of everyday life.

Do you work with reactive or anxious dogs?

We have extensive experience working with dogs struggling with reactivity and anxiety. Every dog is unique, and we begin with an individual evaluation to determine the best approach for their temperament and specific triggers.

In many cases, we may recommend starting with private sessions or a structured Board & Train program to establish a safe foundation first. Our priority is always your dog's safety and emotional well-being while setting realistic expectations for their long-term progress.

Do you use e-collars?

Remote collars are never used without owner approval; consent and education are provided prior to use.

Daycare Questions

Does my dog have to play with other dogs?

Dogs are never required to be in group play. All interaction is evaluated and supervised based on each dog’s individual needs, temperament, and stress levels.

We prioritize safety and emotional well-being above all else. Decisions regarding social interaction are made daily by our professional team to ensure a positive and low-stress experience for every guest.

Do dogs in boarding or Board & Train participate in daycare?

Some dogs may participate in daycare-style play when appropriate, based on their individual temperament, stress level, safety, and compatibility with other dogs.

Participation varies from day to day and is not guaranteed. All social activity is carefully managed at our professional discretion to maintain a balanced and cohesive group dynamic for all dogs in our care.

What is your daycare structure like?

Our daycare is a highly structured and professionally supervised environment, not a free-for-all play session. Throughout the day, dogs rotate through cycles of:
• Supervised play and social interaction
• Mental enrichment and training drills
• Individual walks and outdoor time
• Mandatory rest and crate downtime

This balance prevents overstimulation and ensures every dog stays in a calm, balanced state of mind.

Enrollment & Booking

What vaccinations and health requirements are required?

To ensure the safety and health of all our guests, the following requirements must be met before any dog can participate in our programs:

  • BHLPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus)
  • Rabies Vaccination
  • Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
  • Canine Influenza
  • Negative Fecal Test (required within the last 6 months)

Physical proof of all current vaccinations and a negative fecal result is required during the initial evaluation or before boarding stay.

Do you accept all dogs?

Safety and well-being always come first at  The Everyday Canine. Because we operate in a specialized home-based environment, participation in our programs is not guaranteed for every dog. Decisions regarding enrollment are based on a thorough evaluation of behavior, stress levels, and our ability to maintain a safe environment for all guests and handlers.
